Chapter 2: Timing hardware

Practise with the simulator

Switch on the decoder simulator to learn the screens with made-up laps, no hardware needed. It turns itself off every time RaceLyx restarts.

We are recording this one now. It will play right here when it is ready.

The simulator feeds made-up passings into RaceLyx so you can try heats, race control and results before race night. It is off by default and switches itself off at every restart, so a real race can never be fed fake laps by accident.

Before you start

  • Some drivers with transponders, for Event mode.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Switch it on in Features

Simulator is under Analytics & Development. It appears in the sidebar under Settings once ticked.

  2. 2

    Open the Simulator

The page is titled Decoder Simulator and warns that it feeds fabricated laps into the live timing engine.

  3. 3

    Set it up

Quick mode makes up its own cars. Event mode uses the drivers registered for your event. Min Lap, Max Lap and Consistency shape the laps.

  4. 4

    Start it

The header now shows "Simulated data" in amber. Open Practice or Quick Race to watch the laps.

  5. 5

    Stop it

Restarting RaceLyx also stops it and hides it again.

Tips

  • The header shows "Simulated data" in amber while it runs. If you see that on race night, stop it.
  • Simulator sessions are marked in Results. The "Simulator sessions" filter and "Select all simulator sessions" make them easy to delete.
  • Start and open Quick Race is the fastest way to see a race happen.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find the Simulator.
Switch it on in Settings, Features, under Analytics & Development. It is hidden again after a restart.
