I run the track
Guides for race directors
Hook up the decoder, set up a race night, run heats and mains, and put results on every screen.
105 guides in 16 chapters. Start at the top, or jump to the one you need.
No guides match that. Try a shorter word, or ask us.
Cloud and public pages
Connect to RaceLyx Cloud
Sign in to RaceLyx Cloud to sync your club and publish results to live.racelyx.com, and choose whether results and live timing publish by themselves.
Publish results online
Get results on your public page: automatically on save, one session with Publish, or every past session at once. Pro or Club plan.
Your public track page
Set up what drivers see online: list your track in the directory, claim your-track.racelyx.com, and add your details, surfaces, contacts and waiver.
Share live results with a QR code
Show the QR code from Home so drivers and families can open live timing and results on their phones, or open the live results page yourself.
Sync, and set up a new computer
Check sync status, sync now, retry stuck uploads, and bring your whole club onto a new PC with Restore from RaceLyx Cloud.
Timing hardware
Connect your decoder
Connect an I-Lap, EasyLAP, LapMonitor, LapWiz or OpenStint SDR decoder, check it is talking, and watch the first passings arrive.
LyxBridge and timing gates
Connect the RaceLyx LyxBridge, see your gates check in, rename and test each gate, and check batteries before a rally.
Practise with the simulator
Switch on the decoder simulator to learn the screens with made-up laps, no hardware needed. It turns itself off every time RaceLyx restarts.
Use a USB race button
Set up a USB race button or foot pedal to start and stop runs by hand, and a barcode scanner for driver cards.
Series, points and awards
Create a championship series
Set up a season championship: name and year, the classes, the race format, and the points table, with worst rounds dropped. Pro plan.
Add events and publish series standings
Add each event to the series, sync its results, and export or publish the season standings with points per round, gap, wins and drops. Pro plan.
Awards, TQ and certificates
Mark each class's top qualifier and fastest lap, keep all-time records, add your own awards, and print certificates. Club plan.
Driver and club analytics
Look at any driver's history, streaks, consistency and personal records, compare drivers side by side, and see club attendance trends.
Plan an event
Create an event
Plan a club race in Event Setup: name and date, Circuit Racing, the classes racing, then practice, qualifying and mains, and Apply Setup.
Qualifying settings
Set the qualifying rounds, heat length, cars per heat, clock mode and how drivers are ranked, or start from the IFMAR or ROAR rule set.
Mains settings
Decide how mains end (time or laps), cars per main, main length, an A Main of its own length, and bump-ups between mains.
Schedule an event ahead
Plan an event for a future date with Schedule Event, find it under Upcoming Events, and start it on the day. RaceLyx reminds you when one is due today.
Change an event while it runs
Use Edit Event to change a running event, like making the mains longer after qualifying. Mains not yet run pick up the change.
End an event
Close out race day with End Event, which saves the event summary to your track history. Find past events on Events and reopen one if you need to.
Run an endurance race
A long race with driver swaps where most laps wins: set the length, enter each car and its drivers, start, record swaps, and save to Results. Pro plan.
Multi-leg finals
Score an A Main run as legs, IFMAR or ROAR style: the saved A Mains are read as legs, the worst leg is dropped, and lowest points wins. Pro plan.
Heats and mains
Draw the qualifying heats
Generate qualifying heats from the drivers entered: heat size, length, round and seeding, separate heats per class, and the next-round choices.
Move drivers between heats
Use Edit Heats to move a driver to another heat, balance heat sizes, shuffle, or add an empty heat. Heats already run are locked.
Print heat sheets
Print the heat lineups, schedule and agenda for the pit board with Print or Ctrl+P on Heats & Program. Mains print with start spots and bump-up slots.
Build the mains
When qualifying is done, Build Mains seeds each class's mains from qualifying: most laps, then quickest time. Check the order and Generate.
Bump-ups between mains
After a lower main is saved, RaceLyx offers the bump-up: the top finishers move into the next main up. Untick anyone who should stay put, then Apply.
Entries and check-in
Enter drivers into the event
Put drivers into tonight's event from Entries: search the roster or scan a driver card, or add someone new with their transponder in one go.
Drivers on race day
Use the Event Roster on Drivers to see who is in tonight, take someone out of the race, put everyone in at once, and print driver cards.
Walk-up registration
Open the walk-up registration screen on a tablet at the door, so drivers can enter themselves on your network.
Driver check-in at the gate
Check drivers in as they arrive, test transponders, print the check-in QR sign, and set the waiver and entry fee for the check-in page.
Racer sign-in screen
Let drivers sign themselves in at the desk PC: scan their driver card or start a new profile with name, class and transponder.
Online pre-registration
Take entries online before race day: open registration, share the link, approve sign-ups and import them into the event roster. Pro plan.
Pit assignment
Set up your pit spaces, keep some for officials, auto-assign drivers to pits, and print the pit list. Club plan.
Money
Entry fees and who has paid
Set an entry fee, then mark drivers paid as they pay at the desk. RaceLyx warns about unpaid racers before a heat.
Financial report
See revenue, entry fees, membership dues, expenses and net profit for an event, a month, a year or all time, and what is still outstanding. Club plan.
Record payments and expenses
Add a payment or expense by hand, import tonight's entry fees from the roster, mark a payment unpaid, and export everything to CSV. Club plan.
Collect membership dues
Renew a member when they pay their dues: set the new expiry and amount, and it lands in Financials. Club plan.
Take payments online with Stripe
Connect your Stripe account so drivers pay the entry fee when they register online. RaceLyx keeps $0.25 per paid registration. Pro plan.
Refunds
Record a refund on a paid entry fee or dues: the amount, the reason and how it was paid back. A full refund shows the driver unpaid again. Club plan.
Results and reports
Final results for the event
See every driver's final place on the Final tab, with the qualifying position the mains were seeded from, the main they raced and their best lap.
Print the event reports
From the Final tab, print the qualifying order, the event results, driver recap cards, an event summary and track records.
Session results, print and PDF
Find any saved session in History, print it or save a PDF with every lap time, export CSV or JSON, and delete test runs.
Correct a saved result
Fix a result after it is saved: add a time or lap penalty, DNF or DSQ, or exclude, split and merge laps. Standings and the public page update.
Provisional, official and protests
Publish a result as provisional with a protest window, record a protest, then make it official to lock it. Re-open it with a reason if needed.
Recover a lost heat
Rebuild a heat result from the stored passings when it was lost or reset by mistake: pick when it ran, who was in it, and how it was run.
Event points standings
Score an event by points: set the points per position, drop worst rounds and the tiebreaker, or load the IFMAR or ROAR preset.
Troubleshooting
Get help and report a problem
Open Help for the page you are on with the ? key, and send a problem report with a screenshot and logs straight to RaceLyx support.
Decoder not seen
When laps are not coming in: read the decoder health line, check the port and cable, install the USB driver, and reconnect.
Display port in use
When another program holds port 8080, the display server moves to 8081 by itself. Update your TVs, phones, Stream Deck and OBS to the new address.
Sync and sign-in problems
When the cloud chip says queued, stuck or sign-in expired: what it means, how to retry, and why your local results are always safe.
RaceLyx is already open
Only one copy of RaceLyx runs at a time. Opening it again just brings the open window to the front, so two copies never fight over the decoder.
Unfinished session after a crash
If RaceLyx closed during a heat or rally, Home offers the unfinished session: Resume to carry on, or Discard to start clean.
Driver limit reached
What "Driver limit reached" means: your plan allows a set number of drivers per event (5, 16, 50 or unlimited). Swap out a no-show or upgrade.
Club office
Import drivers from a CSV
Bring your driver list in from RCSignup or a spreadsheet: names, classes, transponders and car numbers. Drivers you already have are never removed.
Import from RC Scoring Pro
Move from RC Scoring Pro: find your track, bring in the roster with every transponder, bring in past events with every lap, and publish them.
Import from LiveRC
Bring past race and practice results in from your LiveRC page: find events, preview, import one or all. Results only, no roster. Pro plan.
Message your drivers
Write heat calls, results-ready notes and event reminders, and send them through your own email app or copy them as a text message. Pro plan.
Back up your data
Turn on automatic backups, make one now before a big change, and restore a backup if something goes wrong.
Clear test results
Ran test nights before going live? Remove all results up to a date, here and on your public pages, while drivers, classes and transponders stay.
Update RaceLyx
RaceLyx downloads updates in the background and never restarts mid-session. See what is new and install when you are ready.
Start here
Install RaceLyx and sign in
Download RaceLyx for Windows from racelyx.com, install it, and sign in or create your account to start the 21-day free trial. No credit card needed.
First-run setup
The three-step setup wizard: how you race, your club and track name, and your timing hardware. About a minute, and you can change all of it later.
A tour of the screens
Find your way around: Home, the eight sidebar sections, the header with the event picker, decoder chip, sound and help, and the ? key.
Your plan, trial and licence key
See which plan you are on, what it includes, how many days are left on a trial, and where to upgrade or enter a licence key.
Practice and Quick Race
Run open practice
Start an open practice so anyone on track gets lap times, watch the board, and stop to save it to Results.
Run a Quick Race
A walk-up race with no classes and no entry list: anyone who crosses the line is in. Set the length, start, and save the result.
Quick Race games
Five fun modes for walk-up racing: Don't get lapped, Knockout, Hot lap, Consistency and Bullseye. What each one scores and how to set it up.
Displays, sound and streaming
Screens on your network
Start the display server and put the scoreboard, results, heats, registration or check-in screen on any TV, tablet or phone on your network.
Show on a TV or projector
Put the TV board, full scoreboard or heat program full screen on a TV or projector plugged into the timing PC, while race control stays on your screen.
OBS overlays for streaming
Add RaceLyx overlays to OBS as browser sources: position tower, lower third, battle, grid and more, with a stream delay to match your camera.
Design your own overlay
Build an OBS overlay your way: drag leaderboards, clocks, text and images onto the canvas, style them, save, and copy the OBS address.
Kiosk display
Run a full-screen kiosk that cycles standings, upcoming heats, event info and the schedule, and sticks on standings while a race runs. Pro plan.
Choose the announcer voice
Pick a natural announcer voice that works offline: search the Piper voices, play a sample, and download the one you like. Or use a Windows voice.
What the announcer calls
Choose how much the announcer says: Key moments, Detailed or Off, what it calls in each style, how drivers are named, and the start countdown.
Quick sound controls
The speaker in the header: mute everything with M, switch the announcer style, set the volume, and turn lap beeps and laps to go on or off mid-race.
Stream Deck and phone remote
Run race control from an Elgato Stream Deck or your phone: turn on remote control, pair the plugin with the token, and scan the QR on a phone.
Print page and event flyer
Find every printable in one place, add your sponsor branding, and make an event flyer with the schedule, format, classes and rules.
Rally
Set up a rally event
Create a rally in Event Setup: Best Run, Stage Rally or Time Attack, hand timing or timing gates, the course, runs per driver, and class order.
One-loop rally timing
Run a rally on one timing loop: the first pass starts the clock and the next pass by the same car stops it. No separate start and finish gates.
Run a rally
Run a Best Run rally in Rally Control: pick the drivers, stage the next car, start and finish each run, and accept the time.
Wrong car staged? Unstage it
Staged the wrong driver? Unstage puts them back in the queue exactly where they were, and nothing counts against them.
Rally penalties and corrections
Add time penalties, VP and SVP, correct a run time with a reason, void a run, and log notes and incidents during a rally.
Finish a rally and save it
When every run is done, make the results official, save points to a series, and Finish rally to put it in Results. End early if you must.
Set up a Stage Rally
A multi-stage rally with total time scoring: the number of stages, timed and untimed stages, driver interval, and the running clock.
Rally practice
Walk-up rally practice: unlimited runs, best run per driver, saved to Results as practice and never scored. Hand-timed or on the gates.
Rally championship
Build a season championship from your rallies: import each saved rally as a round, auto categories by age, and export the standings to PDF. Pro plan.
Rally rules flyer
Make a printed rules poster for your rally: tagline, series name, car and electronics rules, co-driver rules and points. Print or download as PDF.
Race control
Stage a heat and run roll call
Load the next heat with Stage Heat and let roll call tick off each car as it crosses, so you know who is on track before the start.
Start and run a heat
Start a staged heat with the countdown, watch the live table, and let the heat finish on the clock with every car taking the flag.
Caution, red flag and the clock
Throw a caution or red flag to hold the clock, go back to green, and add or take off a minute while a heat runs.
Penalties, DNF and DSQ
Give a time or lap penalty, mark a broken car DNF, or disqualify a driver from the live table. Reinstate undoes it.
Fix a lap count
Open Edit Laps on a driver to add a missed lap at their average, correct a lap time, or delete a double read.
Stray transponders and wrong cars
When roll call sees a transponder that is not in the heat, assign it to the right driver on the spot, or switch a driver to the car they brought.
Save the heat and go to the next
Save a finished heat with Save & Next Heat so it goes to Results and the next heat is ready, or Reset to throw it away.
Re-run a heat
Run a heat again after a timing problem or a big crash: pick it on the heat strip and stage it again.
Announcements and Race Monitor
Make your own announcements from Race Control, and use Race Monitor as an announcer's screen with grid calls, time warnings and driver stats.
Club setup
Your track and its layouts
Name your track, add the layouts you run (Figure 8, Short course), and pick tonight's layout so lap records stay fair per layout.
Set up your classes
Create the classes you race, from one-click common classes or your own names. Classes group drivers for heats, mains and points.
Class race settings
Set a class's qualifying format, heat length, main length, drivers per heat and bump-ups, so every event that uses it starts with the right numbers.
Add a driver
Add a driver with their class and transponder. One transponder per class; each transponder is a car. A driver who races two classes gets two rows.
Teach the announcer a name
Set a driver's Said as so the announcer says their name right, and preview it as written, as said, and in a race call.
Club members
Set your annual dues and member entry fees, add members from your driver list, and see who is expiring. Club plan.
Loaner transponders
Keep track of the club's house transponders: add them, check one out to a driver with a deposit, and check it back in.
Choose which features show
Use Settings, Features to pick a Quick Setup for the way you race, or switch single modules on and off. Nothing is deleted when you hide one.
Race preferences
Settings, Race: grid or staggered starts, auto-start between heats, unknown transponder alerts, flagging impossible laps, and the Rival strip.
